At least with the old fashioned icemen, milkmen and mailmen, you could talk to them one-to-one as a person and they might become your friend. No chance of that happening with the Amazon gang.

This reminds me of the "Pittsburgh Potty" phenomena. There are often entrances directly to the basement, where there exists a toilet, often just out in the open, usually adjacent to a laundry sink, sometimes a shower. The conventional explanation, is that steel workers would go directly to the basement to drop their clothes and 'freshen up', so as to not track things through the house. I think that the explanation has been bunked (may be that it was the first toilet in the house after the outhouses were gone).

I had never heard of this! I have just read half a dozen articles that mention the steelworker but others suggest that it was a sort of overflow for when the sewers backed up, which makes no sense at all since there would be a floor drain and there is a sink next to it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_toilet
