I’m really sorry to read that. You’ve been the best thinh about Treehugger, which has been steadily going downhill. I’ve never used Substack, and I’ve no idea what Carbon Upfront is, but I’ll certainly try to keep reading you - if you keep writing!
Similarly since Treehugger's sale I've noticed the quality of overall content go down, and more of the "Ten best X for Y" articles that are fairly clickbaity pop up. Recently I realised I hadn't visited in a while, and when I did it's only articles such as yours and your fellow similar writers that I was reading. I think this opportunity to branch out alone may be good.
I have periodically checked in on TH the last few weeks and wasn't seeing any content from you (and therefore leaving), finally today I googled what was going on and found this. I now have no reason to ever visit TH again I guess. Their loss!
Well you were and are a much needed voice on these topics. Thank you for all those posts, shooting down the nonsense and highlighting those doing great work. I'll be ready to buy a copy of the new book when it lands!
I read Treehugger mostly from the beginning. I remember that carpet tile article! After the Meredith thing it really declined. I stopped reading after Katherine 's exit. Glad to see you here.
Lloyd, you are, at the moment, probably the world's best writer on the nexus between environmentalism and the built environment. That TreeHugger doesn't need you is an interesting facet of corporate publishing's decline – but please, keep writing.
I love reading your stuff Lloyd, very interesting history here.

There were two sides: the "news" and the "evergreen" information that was all google driven. That was their business model.

Thanks for the note and welcome1
100% same here! Glad I found your substack, Lloyd. I was really missing hearing from you!!
I think your love of Brutalism contributed to the downfall. Just kidding. A big thanks to Katherine for heads up on your new site.
Ah sorry to hear that, what a loss not having the old treehugger and all your articles coming out!

I only read your work on Treehugger, enjoying your SubStack posts. Don't stop!
I'm sorry to hear this. Please do keep writing writing here on Substack!
Lloyd - Good luck on your new endeavours. Enjoy.
Good luck, I've been appreciating your work for years!
I am another who came to Treehugger to read your stuff almost exclusively. It’s great to have an opportunity to continue to read you.
I forgot to mention that I loved your book and passed it on to others.
thank you for your note. I won't be writing as much!
Sorry to hear that
I’d noticed the slow and sad decline of Treehugger’s quality. You were about the only reason I still kept an eye on it!
I’m glad you’re going to keep your hand in here.
(And how the HELL did we get this old, anyway?)
I loved your work on Treehugger and Learned a lot from you. Will keep this space bookmarked. Thank Lloyd.

Glad you found me. Katherine has a great substack and a new book! https://katherinemartinko.substack.com
Oh yes, I've been on Katherine's substack for a while now, I'm a big fan of hers. Also waiting for the book to show up in my mailbox :)
