Don't forget the software engineer's definition of "elegant"!

You know we need the pictures of the clothes you bought as much as we need the pictures of the VW van.

I think blue jeans falls under the heading of flexible clothing, at least in the US.

Many years ago, I inherited a (now) hundred year old gate leg table that my parents bought second hand in the early days of their marriage. It's mahogany, oval, slim - all elegant verticals - very light, and folds down to a narrow rectangle. In my childhood, we managed to seat a large family around it (I'm not sure how!) and it has served us as a couple through several homes as dining table, hall console, and work table. I love it for its practicality, beauty and the memories it holds.

Now we have moved into a smaller house with a single main living space, it opens out fully for the occasional times we have guests and is pushed against the wall, as a half oval as a general repository surface - when we're just two we eat at a small kitchen island my husband built from an offcut and a couple of cupboards. We have light wooden Ikea ladder-backed chairs which are spread round the house as extra clothes hanging space, sofa-bedside tables in the spare room, etc and are brought in as dining chairs when required. I really like living like this, with everything as lightweight and multi-purpose as possible and moved about as needed.

And don’t forget the IKEA hack websites. PS, turned out we could have met in London after all.
