Yet the car will remain, and it symbolizes the problem by being the best example of the problem. Electric cars do not solve our environmental and resource consumption problem. The problem is the car. They prevent good solutions. They block housing solutions (parking space). They gobble resources and reduce environmental production (impervious surfaces) and quality (air and water pollution plus waste at end of use). One Tesla uses 100 times more resources than an electric bike, and maybe 200 times more than a conventional bike. Perhaps one day people will comprehend this, but will it occur before the system that supports our present way of living collapses?
