I 100% agree with all of this. Sadly, I feel like we are old men shaking our fists at the clouds. Image seems to trump functionality in a big way in our culture. I've made peace with a lot of things but I can't seem to make peace with this...
I completely agree with your disdain for skeuomorphism, but the F150 Lightning clings to a lot of the F150 design for economies of scale to keep the cost down. Ford was able to bring it to market competitively because of its similarity to the gas version. I hope that a more practical version will come next taking full advantage of the clean sheet that an EV can benefit from (and that the EV version will become the dominant seller driving those economies of scale).
