I'm so on board with EV's, however WAY out of reach price wise for me. My biggest concern - how will our antiquated electric grid handle all of these electric vehicles/charging stations/home battery back-up set ups? My (Montreal suburb) hydro goes out several times per year - for days on end.

That is a great question, increasing ev’s with vehicle to grid capabilities will increase the robustness of the grid providing backup when the power is out or needed.

Thanks for taking it all in. E-bikes as car replacements—when practical—makes sense. The rest? Eh...

EVs do not fix the unsustainable problem of one-car-per-person.

Yes I wrote about that study in an earlier post. I have long said that we don't need electric cars, we need fewer cars. I decided to be cautiously optimistic for a change. https://lloydalter.substack.com/p/jargon-watch-the-nirvana-fallacy

Still waiting on the VW ID Buzz, Kombi look alike. They announced it back in 2017 but still not available. Latest estimate is that it will cost USD $75k for the entry level model. VW is dragging its feet on so many electric car options.
